Description

Carved from cottonwood and finished with a varnish, this small kachina doll by Navajo carver Robert Platero depicts a starface.  The kachina stands on a round, unfinished base, the starface appears to be taking a step forward with one foot in front of the other.  Both arms are bent with hands in front of its body, two wooden feathers held in each hand.  Wooden garments etched with geometric patterns surround the waist, while the round face is etched with a triangle along the forehead, rectangular eyes, and a triangular mouth. The piece is finished with triangles surrounding the head, with wooden feathers attached to each tip.  6 1/8″ tall x 2 1/2″ wide 2 3/8″ deep.
