Description

Depicting an owl, this impressive, large kachina doll was carved by hand by Navajo artist Victor Abeita.  The owl stands atop a round wooden base, one leg lifted as if taking a step forward, its ankles covered in white fur.  White fur also adorns the entirety of the owls head, face and neck, with wooden eyes and beak poking through and painted yellow and black.  Brown, black and purple feathers adorn the head and are also held in each hand, while grey and purple leather accents are wrapped around the owl’s wrists and waist.  Owl kachinas are said to be beneficial to agriculture because of their destruction to rodent, and symbolize intelligence and wisdom.  14 1/2″ tall x 7 1/2″ wide x 5″ deep.
