Description
Adorned with feathers, leather, fur and silver, this fun Sunface kachina doll was carved by Navajo artist Victor Abeita. The large sunface stands atop a small, round wooden base, one leg lifted as though the kachina is taking a step forward. The face of the piece showcases black eyes and mouth, with a hogan scene painted in brown, black and white along the forehead. The face is surrounded by black feathers, while the sunface also holds one black and one orange feather in each hand. White fur surrounds the kachina’s neck, while leather adorns the wrists, waist, and ankles. Wrists and waist also showcase sterling silver star patterns, those along the waist separated by turquoise pieces. The Sunface is said to represent warmth, shelter for the old, bright future, and playfulness for the young. 15″ tall x 5″ wide 4 1/2″ deep.
