Description

Carved by Hopi artist Kerry David, this small, impressively detail kachina doll depicts a Sunface.  The piece is carved from a single piece of cottonwood root, with the sunface standing atop a thin, round base with one leg lifted up and slightly in front of the other.  Both of the sunface’s arms are bent as if moving, one hand holding a rattle and the other, a feather.  Detailed feathers painted brown and white surround the turquoise face, which also features red and tan accents. The back of the head showcases additional feathers, with visible parts of the body painted in yellow, turquoise and red.  The Sunface represents warmth, shelter for the old, bright future, and playfulness for the young.  3 1/4″ tall x 1 3/4″ wide x 1 3/4″ deep.
