Description
Handmade by Jemez potter Alvina Yepa, this incredible vase showcases not only multiple patterns etched by hand over the entire surface, but a step rimmed lid that fits perfectly along the base and also features multiple etched designs. The vase, predominantly red but etched to showcase the buff coloration underneath, is banded four times around the body, each band featuring multiple designs. These designs include avanyu serpents, corn stalks, weather patterns including clouds and rian, feather patterns, turtles, and steps, while the lid of the piece also features corn stalks, step patterns, weather patterns, and an avanyu snaking its way around the top. The lid, cut into step patterns along the edges which fit perfectly into the step patterns along the top of the piece’s body, is finished with a rectangular handle also carved with step patterns along the top and featuring etched designs mimicking those below. The red portions of the vase are beautifully stone polished to a high shine. 11 1/2″ tall including lid x 6″ wide. 8″ tall without lid.
