Description

Decorated in shades of blue and white, this hand carved kachina doll by Navajo artist Victor Abeita depicts a hoop dancer.  The dancer stands atop a round wooden vase varying light to medium brown in color, one leg bent and lifted high, as if the kachina is dancing.  The kachina holds intertwined hoops in each hand, feathers and a turquoise piece attached to the hoop at the center.  The kachina is predominantly covered in white fur, with white feathers surrounding its head and running down its back.  The face is painted turquoise with red, yellow and black accents, as is the body, while blue felt covers the kachina’s lower half, topped with a brown felt belt set with a single piece of turquoise.  The Hoop Dancer amuses the audience of a major ceremony, and its hoops represent the circle of life. 12 7/8″ tall x 5″ wide x 7″ deep.
