Description

Carved by hand by late Hopi artist Jocelyn Vote, one of only a handful of female Hopi carvers, this gorgeous kachina doll depicts a Warrior, or Sipikne.  This particular kachina doll is said to dance in a very active manner, bounding about and raising his knees much higher than other kachinas.  Sipikne often functions as a guard to keep people back form certain other kachinas.  This particular iteration features a parrot atop the kachina’s head, painted vibrantly in green, red and blue.  The head and face of Sipikne are painted black with turquoise, red and yellow accents, while the kachina’s upper body is mostly exposed.  A carved cloth surrounds its lower body, painted in green, black, yellow and red accents, and the kachina holds reeds in both hands.  A belt of bells is carved around its waist, and it stands atop a thick wooden base, one foot slightly lifted.  9″ tall x 2 7/8″ wide x 3″ deep.
