Next week thousands of people will visit Santa Fe as it once again becomes the hub of the Native American Indian art world. SWAIA’s 92nd Annual Santa Fe Indian Market is slated to begin Monday, August 12th with events scheduled throughout the week, culminating in the two-day Weekend art show in the Plaza.

Looking Forward to Santa Fe Indian MarketPalms Trading Company will be open, and we hope to see many of you here to experience the magic of Southwest art. Here’s what you can expect at this year’s Market:

The Mission

The Santa Fe Indian Market is not just a casual art show. Of course, visitors can stroll around the plaza to simply appreciate the beauty of the work on display, but the week full of events is intended to carry out SWAIA’s mission of “cultural preservation, intercultural understanding and providing economic opportunities for American Indians through excellence in the arts” (http://swaia.org/About_SWAIA/index.html).

The week’s events celebrate Native American Indian history, tradition and culture, showcase and honor accomplished artists and their work as well as provide the opportunity for new artists to gain recognition and exposure. The Market is not limited to Native American Indian artists from the Southwestern Pueblos. Artists from tribes and Nations around the country participate, highlighting the cultural diversity and range of artistic styles, techniques and traditions among the Native American Indian population.

The Schedule

Santa Fe Indian Market runs from Monday, August 12th until Sunday, August 18th. The week is full of events to appeal to all ages, a wide array of artistic interests and varying levels of familiarity with the Native American Indian art world.
