Description

Vibrantly painted in yellow, red, turquoise and black, this traditional Navajo kachina doll by Victor Abeita depicts a sunface.  The face of the kachina is painted predominantly yellow, its mouth and eyes black and forehead painted with turquoise and red accents.  The face is surrounded by black feathers, while the kachina holds additional brown, white and green feathers in each hand.  White fur lines the kachina’s neck and shoulders, as well as the back of the head and back, and is also featured around the kachina’s ankles.  The sunface stands on one foot, the other leg bent and lifted as if taking a step forward, and its lower half is covered in deep blue felt with a brown felt belt set at the center with a single piece of turquoise.  The sunface represents warmth, shelter for the old, bright future, and playfulness for the young. 15″ tall x 6″ wide x 6″ deep.
