Stunningly displaying his mastery of carving, this incredible chameleon fetish was created by Zuni artist Hudson Sandy. The piece, made entirely of archaen butterstone, which is said to predate dinosaurs by over 2500 million years, featured impossibly thinly carved fine lines and exceptional detail and movement. The chameleon’s body is slightly curved, its eyes inlaid with small, round turquoise pieces. Scales are perfectly displayed along its back, while criss-crossed lines give life to the entirety of the body, including feet and tail. The chameleon sits perched atop a small rock, also carved from archaen butterstone. 2 1/4″ tall x 1 1/4″ wide x 2 1/4″ deep.
