Made entirely of black marble, this turtle fetish by Zuni carver Dilbert Gasper showcases finely carved patterns along the surface, as well as a traditional, inlaid sunface at the center of its shell. Reoccurring feather designs are lightly etched along the shell, surrounding a sunface inlaid in turquoise, coral, jet, and white mother of pearl. The remainder of the surface of the piece showcases traditional etched designs. In many Native American cultures, the turtle represents Mother Earth, good health, and long life/longevity. 2 3/4″ long x 2″ wide x 3/8″ tall.
