Description

Created by Zuni carver Carl Etsate, this traditional corn maiden is made of elk antler, while the offering in front of it comprises mainly alabaster and turquoise.  The maiden itself also featured a body dotted with turquoise, coral, and jet pieces, with an offering atop its head, the opening full of small turquoise pieces.  The offering in front of it sits in an alabster bowl, which not only contains turquoise, but jet and mother of pearl pieces carved to form what appears to be corn.  Both corn maiden and offering are set on a wooden slat, and the corn maiden, in many Native American cultures, symbolizes potential and is the bringer of life.4 1/2″ long x 4 3/8″ tall x 2″ wide.
