The Chasing Star Kachina, a symbol for the planets and the stars, is said to have the ability to resurrect those that have fallen from the sky by lifting them back up to the stars. Navajo carver Loretta Joe created this rendition, using colorfuly red leather and black, white, and turquoise paint. The head is painted predominantly turquoise, featuring a black star and white accents, while the body is painted red and white. Red leather surrounds the biceps and wrists, while grey fur is placed atop the head, around the neck, and around the ankles. Brown and tan feathers are set along the back of the head and flow down the back, and the piece is carved out of cottonwood and set on a pine base. 7 3/4″ tall x 3 7/8″ wide.
