While known for his traditional and intricate maiden pieces, Bennie Ration is not known to make many cuff bracelets in this style, making this maiden cuff quite unique. The piece features a base of a thrice split sterling silver shank, the center band comprising a sterling silver rope pattern, topped with one of Bennie’s recognizable kachina pieces. The The body of the maiden is made up entirely of a blue-green turquoise stone, set in a simple sterling silver bezel and featuring large portions of brown and grey matrix running throughout. It is bordered by a sterling rope pattern at the base, followed by a stamped and cut out sterling silver band, which is also repoussed with two rows of sterling silver dots. Attached to the shank, and to the body, is a maiden’s head, showcasing deeply grooved rectangular eyes and a round, appliqued mouth. Its forehead is stamped with thin, vertical lines, representing hair, and a sterling silver bun is attached to each side of the head. A single, sterling silver feather is attached to the shank just above the maiden’s head. 1″ wide with an inner end to end measurement of 5 1/2″ and a 1 1/4″ opening. Cuff is slightly adjustable.
