Description

Depicting a Morning Singer, this lovely kachina doll was carved by Navajo artist Victor Abeita.  The piece features a turquoise painted face with black, rectangular eyes and cloud patterns in turquoise, yellow, red and black on each cheek, finished with a nose, painted red and turquoise, protruding from the center of the face.  The head is topped with brown feathers, while the neck is surrounded by white fur.  The kachina wears brown leather over the majority of its body, holding a feather in one hand and additional brown leather in the other, which is finished with a bell at the end.  The kachina’s waist is set with a single turquoise stone at the center, while the leather surrounding its lower half is painted in traditional designs in turquoise, brown, red, and yellow.  The Morning Singer is said to appear on roof tops, singing songs to wake the people of the villages.  12 1/2″ tall x 6 1/2″ wide.
