Showcasing a large tableta painted with a butterfly and two corn cobs, this Navajo doll depicts a Butterfly Kachina. The tableta surrounding the kachina’s turquoise and black head is predominantly white and painted in red, orange, turquoise, and black, the top lined with feathers. The butterfly kachina’s neck is surrounded by white fur, while beige felt is draped across one shoulder and tied around elbows, wrists, and ankles. Turquoise leather is wrapped around each arm, while red felt surrounds the waist, below which is white leather painted in traditional patterns in black, red, and turquoise. The Butterfly Kachina represents the butterfly that lands on flowers, which the medicine man then uses in his medicine. 11 1/2″ tall x 5″ wide x 4″ deep.
