Description

Handmade by well-known Jemez potter Linda Lucero Fragua, this beautiful, large storyteller features a seated woman and five children.  The woman rests with her legs outstretched, a shawl draped over her head painted in traditional patterns in brown, black, grey, buff, and red.  One child is slung over her shoulder, holding a drum, while the other four all rest in her lap.  Of the children in her lap, one holds a plate painted with a corn stalk and step pattern, one holds a blanket, and two have one or both hands held up to their open mouths. The woman is painted in black and red, step patterns along the bottom of her dress, and a traditional squash blossom necklace painted along her neckline.  She is finished with rosy cheeks, expressive eyes, and an open mouth, and a basket of corn sits on her lap in front of the children.  7″ tall x 4″ wide x 6 1/2″ deep.
