Jemez potter Juanita Fragua, now 86 years of age, continues to create stunning pottery in the traditional method, coiling her pieces by hand and painting with chewed yucca leaf brushes and natural paints. This beautiful, large wedding vase features several hand painted designs along the front and twisted handle, while the back of the piece remains stone polished but otherwise unadorned. Painted patterns along the piece’s front side include three corn stalks, a large, overarching eagle, and cloud and rain patterns. The piece’s step rimmed openings are painted in black with triangle and line designs, while the twisted handle showcases triangle designs in white. 9 1/2″ tall x 5 1/2″ wide.
