Beautifully handmade and hand painted by Jemez potter Caroline Sando, this gorgeous vase is a slight spin on a traditional friendship pot, featuring a long neck, give steps, and seven children. The kiva step rim of the vase is painted solid red, which gives way to the piece’s buff backdrop and additonal painted designs including geometric patterns, additional step patterns, and a large bird on the back side, which Caroline says represents protection and freedom. Four children are placed along the piece just above the inflection, appearing to be hanging from the side, while two additional children are set at the top of the opening of the piece, along with one inside the piece at the bottom of the opening. The piece, according to Caroline, is a blessing for the home, and is finished with a wooden ladder protruding from the inside. 14″ tall including ladder. 11 1/4″ tall with ladder removed. 4 3/4″ wide.
