Hopi Wilmer Kaye White Cloud Kachina Doll

Artist: Wilmer Kaye

1 in stock

Carved from a single piece of cottonwood root, this stunning kachina doll was made by hand by Hopi artist Wilmer Kaye.  The piece depicts a White Cloud kachina, which represents the clouds in the sky and brings moisture for crops.  The piece features a double base, one smaller oval wood piece on top of another larger wood piece, juxtaposed in color from light to dark brown.  Standing atop this base is the White Cloud kachina, its head and face entirely white aside from black accents making up the eyes, mouth, and a few decorative details.  Turquoise, white and black painted heishi earrings are carved within each of the double balled ears, while a beautiful cloak painted in red accents covers the cloud’s shoulders.  The kachina holds a basket painted with additional clouds in turquoise, red and yellow, along with red lightning patterns extending outward from the clouds, and the remainder of the cloud’s clothing is painted in black, red, green, and blue.  8 3/8″ tall x 2 1/2″ wide x 3″ deep.
