Description

Carved by late Hopi artist and one of only a handful of women carvers out of Hopi Pueblo, Jocelyn Vote, this incredible kachina doll depicts a White Bear.  The piece is beautifully and intricately carved, with the bear standing atop a round, purposely uneven base, one foot lifted slightly, as if the bear is taking a step forward.  It holds a rattle in one hand and a bow in the other, the garments surrounding his waist painted in purple, green, and red.  The bear features carved fur around its neck, its teeth bared and tongue sticking out, while delicate feathers protrude forward from its ears and the top of its head.  The White Bear kachina is said to represent strength, power, courage, wisdom and healing.  9 3/4″ tall x 2 3/4″ wide x 2 1/2″ deep.
