Standing with her head tilted up toward the sky, mouth open, and cheeks rosy, a woman is depicted with seven children in this impressive storyteller figurine by Jemez potter Diane Lucero. Five children rest between the woman’s arms, one holding a drum, one, a basket, and another, a basketball. One child holds his hands on his head, while the fifth places his hands on his sibling’s head. Three additional children are rest at the woman’s feet, one holding a drum and another, a soccer ball. The third child half hides underneath the woman’s shawl, while an adorable little dog rests just below, also half-hidden. Each of the children is painted in buff, black, and red, while the woman is painted in those colors, plus white and turquoise. The piece is finished with another basket placed along her skirt, opposite the children. 10 1/2″ tall x 5″ wide x 4″ deep.
