Painted vibrantly in turquoise, red, white, black, and blue, this Navajo kachina doll depicts the “Chasing Star.” A star pattern is painted on the front of the turquoise head in black, red and white, while feathers protrude from the back of the head and fur surrounds the neck. Blue leather wraps around the kachina’s arms and white leather around the wrists and across the chest, while red leather wraps around the waist and gives way to long white leather patinted in red, turquoise, and black. More white leather wraps around the ankles and the kachina holds sticks in each hand. The Chasing Star kachina is said to be a symbol for the planets and the stars, and can resurrect those that have fallen from the sky by
lifting them back up to the stars. 10″ tall x 4 1/2″ wide x 3 1/2″ deep.
