Description
A gorgeous, spiraled piece of cottonwood root provides the basis for this incredible longhair kachina doll by Hopi/Laguna carver Ray Jose. The piece’s spiraled center is topped with a head set with a flat of feathers protruding outward and a single feather protruding upward, all painted vibrantly in green, yellow, orange, blue, and red. The bottom of the spiral showcases an expertly carved and painted kiva which rests atop a cottonwood base, while the majority of the kachina is painted black along the spiral, front and back of the head, hence its long hair, with the face painted turquoise, red, yellow, and white. Traditionally, the longhair kachina brings rain, is always singing, and has a long beard that represents rain. 11 5/8″ tall x 2 1/4″ wide.
