Artist: Fred Chapella

The Hopi bear or “Hon” is revered for his strength. It is thought that the bear is so strong that he can cure the sick. He is a warrior but has great temperance. The bear dancer dances outside the conformed lines at the first mesa soyal. He is distinguished by a bear headress and paws on either cheek. This piece features a lovely human dancer rendition of teh bear as part of the base while the spirit kachina dances above. The piece is so beautifully detailed in carving and color. The kachina was carved by Fred Chapella, a long known first mesa carver. 10” tall x 3” wide
