Hopi Fernando Tewahlina Long Hair Kachina

Artist: Fernando Tewahlina

The Hopi long hair is revered as one of the most loving and humanly of all the kachinas. The songs of the long hair bring rain, which are represented by the long, straight hair of the figure and flowers to the lands. The long hairs depiction, like this kachina, is often simple compared to the more elaborate dancers and typically only adorned with simple neck ware and meager robes. This kachina, carved by Fernando Tewahlina also depicts a pueblo scene within the body of the piece, a special prayer for rain to the pueblo (not the land in general). The piece is signed as shown. 11” tall x 3 1/4” wide
