Two children rest on one leg of a large, seated woman in this beautiful storyteller figurine by Jemez potter Mary Lucero. The woman rests with her legs bent and crossed in front of her, a basket full of corn, a necklace and a sash at their center and two children seated on one leg. Her head is tilted slightly upward, mouth open, cheeks rosy and eyes wide, her hair pulled into a bun on each side. Each of the children, who are seated one behind the other, are created with hands outstretched, one with his mouth shut and the other with it open. A lovely blanket is draped around the woman’s shoulders, a folded portion behind the children painted with a flower pattern that extends along the back of the piece, reoccurring, and the woman is finished with a double turquoise painted necklace. 5 1/4″ tall x 4″ wide x 4 1/2″ deep.
