Description
Four children rest on the lap of a large, seated woman in this traditional storyteller figurine by Jemez potter Chrislyn Fragua. The woman rests with her legs outstretched, her skirt flowing, three children sitting atop her lap, one of which holds a swaddled baby, while another holds a blanket. Each of the children are painted in colors that mirror those painted along the woman, predominantly black, red and buff with brown and grey accents. The woman holds a piece of pottery in her hands, painted in red and black, while a shawl is draped over her head painted in grey and black patterns and a red back. The woman’s mouth is open, eyes expressive and cheeks rosy, and each of the children’s expressions mimic hers. 5 1/2″ tall x 4″ wide x 4 3/4″ deep.
