Description
Handmade by Navajo potter Westly Begaye, this unusual piece features a unique shape and multiple hand painted patterns in black and white, referred to by the artist as “mimbres type.” Fine lines, step patterns, reoccurring triangles and various other geometric designs cover the entire body of the almost egg-shaped piece, while a wooden ladder protrudes from the opening at top center, which is topped with a thick, white rectangular clay piece. The emergence of the ladder from the top of the piece gives way to Westly’s label on the bottom of the piece as “Kiva pottery.” 11 1/2″ tall with ladder x 7 1/2″ wide. 8 1/2″ tall without ladder.
