Jemez potter Mary Lucero created this beautifully expressive, traditional storyteller figurine by hand. The piece showcases a seated woman with two boys: one on her lap and one seated off to the side atop her skirt. A single lamb rests beside the boy on her lap, her hand on its back, while woman, boy, and sheep look straight ahead, the woman’s mouth open. The boy seated off to the side holds one hand up to his face, and a shawl is draped over one of the woman’s shoulders, her neck accented in turquoise and coral. A basket rests along the woman’s skirt on the opposite side of the boy which features traditional pattern sin black and red, while the shawl is painted vibrantly in orange, green, purple, and black. 3 3/4″ tall x 3″ wide x 4 1/8″ deep.
