Deeply etched with a traditional avanyu, this beautiful piece by Santa Clara potter Chris Martinez showcases a traditional and beautiful polish and an unusual shape. The piece narrows at the bottom, widening at the center and narrowing again at the top, the widest portion featuring the traditional avanyu serpent. Its tongue made of a lightning pattern, the wavy body of the serpent winds its way around the widest portion of the pot, representing flowing water during a storm. The body is etched with a single line along its center, while step patterns are carved along both top and bottom and its tail forms a whirlwind. Carved feather designs line the rim. 6″ tall x 7 1/2″wide.
