This wonderfully detailed and intricately etched jar by Jemez potter Alvina Yepa is truly a piece to behold. Stunning sgraffito work covers almost the entirety of the piece, with two main focal points on each side, comprising etched kokopelli ascending steps above slightly tilted corn stalks, as if they’re blowing in the wind. The piece also showcases a mastery of several weather patterns, including whirlwinds, clouds, and rain, in addition to feather and kiva step designs along the rim and corn stalk designs within the weather patterns along the body. A band of arrows pointed in a single direction is etched along the widest point of the piece, while mirror image kiva step designs are etched at the bottom. The piece is beautifully and expertly polished. 7 5/8″ tall x 9″ wide.
