Description
Hopi pottery is known predominantly its fineness and elegantly painted, fluid designs. Gold-hued pots made from clays found at First Mesa are perhaps best known, such as this incredible piece by well-known potter Stetson Setalla. Every detail, from the scalloped rim, to the hand painted geometric patterns, to the wide inflection and vibrant colors, suggest a true artistry and are indicative of fine Hopi art. The scalloped rim of the piece is painted with a solid black band, which complements its red background beautifully, giving way to the aforementioned gold hue, also exhibiting hints of yellow and orange. The piece is painted in red and black with fine lines, dots, and cris-cross designs, while the widest point of the inflection features another solid black band, followed by black reoccurring scallop and dot designs. 6 1/2″ tall x 9″ wide.
