San Ildefonso Maria and Santana Plate

$8,500.00

Product Details:

This exquisite plate by famed San Ildefonso potter Maria Martinez and her daughter-in-law Santana was acquired from a private collection.  Made in the mid 1950's, this piece is painted black on black with a traditional feather pattern and tail feather and step patterns 2 1/2" wide bordering the inner rim.  The polish is smooth and clear with minor surface wear to the rim.  The inner polish inside the painted pattern has a few patches of surface scratches to the polish only, as the surface is completely smooth to the touch.  Two areas are indented underneath the polish at the center of the plate, most likely occuring before firing, as the polish remains intact.  A patch of worn polish in the center has been repaired and is difficult to detect.  The paint appears in its original state with no fading or wear to the patterns.  The bottom of the plate is left unpolished with areas of surface scratches.  The piece is signed Marie & Santana.  Overall condition of this piece is impressive considering its age.  11 7/8"diameter x 1 1/2"deep.  Net price only.  Please feel free to contact us for additional photos.
